Korean War
The Cold War suddenly turned a lot warmer when the communist North Korea invaded the capitalist South Korea. With the Unite States being scared of the spread and willing to do anything to stop it in its tracks. This war was a proxy war which is a war which is a war that is not necessarily fought against the main aggressor. By the time that the United States had came to the assistance of South Korea, North Korea had almost taken the entire country. The United States sent in troops as a United Nations act so they weren't essential declaring war on the USSR. Americans drove the North Koreans almost to the Yalu river, North Korea's border with China. When they got to this point, China, also a communist country, stepped in to help North Korea. They drove American troops all the way back to the 38th parallel, the original border between North and South Korea.
